The Hall of Rings, formerly known as the Hall of Diamonds, is frescoed with the feat of three diamond rings, colored and intertwined to form a triple almond (triquetra). This very ancient symbol, which was attributed with the power to develop friendship and love, represented the Trinity in the Middle Ages. Vignola’s decorations remain the only specimen that has come down to the present day of the Este enterprise, inspired by the color combination of the three theological virtues or virtues of the Christian: Faith (white), Hope (green) and Charity (red). On the ceiling sails of this room, in a sea of intertwined diamond rings, are depicted the exploits of the Leopard and the Worbas, painted on a blue background and surrounded by a garland with field daisies. On the keystone, where the ribs embellished with geometric motifs and plant figures with pine cones intersect, the framed coat of arms of the Contrari family can be seen.
