On Saturday, Oct. 11, on the occasion of It’s Culture!, the Rocca di Vignola opens its doors for free, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., transforming itself into a living stage of theater, music and ancient crafts. The festival, promoted by ABI – Italian Banking Association and ACRI – Association of Foundations and Savings Banks, brings hundreds of events dedicated to cultural heritage throughout Italy from Oct. 11 to 18, offering opportunities for local communities to meet and celebrate. For the occasion, admission to the Fortress will also be free.

In the courtyard of the Rocca, the mask maker’s atelier will be set up by Zorba Officine Creative, a real workshop animated by leather masks, plaster casts and wooden stencils, where the master will also involve visitors in the telling of the Commedia dell’Arte. In the Rocchetta, on the other hand, the painter’s and waxworker’s stalls will find space, bringing to life ancient crafts and the atmosphere of yesteryear.

Enriching the day will be musical and theatrical performances at the Rocca: The Three Onions will perform pieces of ancient music with bagpipes, bombards and drums, while the Theatre of the Islands will stage “Ganda,” a life-size rhinoceros that will enliven the Rocca with a poetic and entertaining tale inspired by the 16th century. There will be no shortage of biting and witty improvisations by Milfo lo Buffon Giullare, a histrionic character capable of drawing the audience into the atmosphere of court jesters.

A day in which music, theater and arts of the past will take turns to accompany visitors to discover the Fortress in a new and engaging guise, with initiatives designed for all ages.
